There is no place in the Christian experience that does not require some sort of discipline.
We are to discipline ourselves in our pursuing Christ (Phil 3:8). We discipline ourselves for worship (Psa 2:11). We discipline ourselves for humble reliance upon Christ (2 Tim 1:6). We discipline our bodies for the distance (1 Cor 9:24-27). We discipline ourselves for the stability of faith. We want to be stable in our faith (Col 2:3). We want to discipline ourselves for godliness (1 Tim 4:7). We want to discipline ourselves for repentance (2 Cor 7:9). We discipline ourselves to rely on God’s power for self-control (Gal 5:23).
The man we want to look at this morning is Jehoiada. He was a man under God who saw Judah turn back to God. Jehoiada fleshes out for us the concepts of discipline so vital for our lives. His example gives us four principles of disciplined godliness.
